Adobe PhotoShop CS4. The end all be all in graphics editing and design has outraged me this week. I have been working on an issue with ALL of our Mac OSX clients where the users are reporting that saving to the network from PhotoShopCS4 is failing more often than not. After weeks of troubleshooting and support calls with Adobe, I was left with this KB article from Adobe's website: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html which in short states: "Adobe Technical Support only supports using Photoshop CS4 on a local hard disk because of the difficulty of re-creating or accurately identifying network- and peripheral-configuration problems." At first I thought I would go ahead and believe that maybe my network was somewhat complex and that might in some way cause this to not work. Sure. Well to further test things out, I took one of the Mac's downstairs and into the server room and plugged it directly into the switch the server was connected it and tried to write a simple 6kb file to my server. Nothing. It failed. Thinking it might have been the server, I attempted to write it to a separate 2008 box, a 2000 box and even a Unix box.. NO GO! How is it that Adobe, for being as large and as all mighty as they are, get off not supporting network locations. Its not that they have "difficulty identifying" different scenarios, its that they just don’t care to support network locations. Of course, they do offer up a solution. Well over the past couple days I have been working on upgrading this site. My intentions are to make this site current with the CMS software I am using as well as offer up new features. By upgrading this site, it will not be easier to post pictures, which in turn I hope will allow us to post some "How-To's" as opposed to just scripts. This will also help make the site a little easier on the eyes. As with all upgrades, I I have complete, fully functional copy of the previous version. I have tested this site over and over again and it all appears to be working well. If you encounter a "glitch" please let me know so I can fix it. As well, I hope to officially get a forum setup here because I am simply just not happy with with commenting system and the spam that it comes with. Look for more changes in the next couple days/weeks/months as I hope to have more for you. Thank you to everyone who has used this site and left feedback, comments or even linked to me on their website. Your the reason we write these articles, and even though they are few and far between, it makes us feel good to do a Google search and see our site come up on others sites. It is the reason we do what we do. So Thank you. Thank you, LazyNetworkAdmin |

Sure this might not be a cutting edge news story. In fact it is relatively old news. Microsoft has made the initiative to automate some of the fixes from their knowledgebase article. Here is their statement
Thank you for your interest in Microsoft Fix it. We're working hard to automate solutions to common software problems in an easy, intuitive way that is available when and where you need it. So whether you are looking for a solution in help or support content, or an error report, Fix it provides a way to apply automated fixes, workarounds, or configuration changes so you don’t have to perform a long list of manual steps yourself.
You can use this solution center to browse for Fix it solutions by product, contact the Fix it team, read about Fix it coverage and events, or get help and support for problems that do not yet have Fix it solutions.
I stumbled across this when I was researching an IE related problem for my Oracle setup. I stumbled across their "Fix-It" solution to allow 10 IE connections by running their MSI. So now as opposed to printing out the Microsoft KB article and going to the problematic desktop/laptop and manually sifting through the registry, you can now just run the MSI. Or better yet, write a simple shell execute or batch file logon script to run when the computer starts up or the user logs on and your done.
Just thought I would throw that out there for everyone since Microsoft released it relatively quietly. |

Incase you havent noticed, there has been a lot of comment spam recently. I have been doing my best trying to keep it off of here but with the commenting system I have, the spammers have simply found a way around it. I have tried adding CAPATCHA and using IP Address banning, but it only works for a little while until they find their ways around those as well. For those of you who subscribed to a comment thread and were getting spammed, I apologize for it filling up your mailbox. I also apologize for not giving you a way to unsubscribe. I have cleared the "notify" flag on every comment on the site and have turned off the feature so this wont happen again. With what has happened, this is both good and bad. The commenting system has worked as both a commenting system and a forum. That shows that the site is used and has become useful to others, which was the goal when I first started this site. In order to make this site more useful, I had started on putting up a forum, then many things happened and things got busy, I never finished it. Well I guess Ill start that back up again. So please hang in there until I can get that up and running. Hopefully get it up there as a christmas present to all the LazynetworkAdmin loyals out there. Thank you, LazyNetworkAdmin |

Does the site look a little different. It should. I spent a lot of time here over the Thanksgiving holiday cleaning up some stuff on the backend and optimizing the site, I thought what better than a new look too. This site has been up for nearly 2 years now and hasn't changed, so I thought it was time for a change. I feel this new site is much cleaner and more professional looking than before. Please feel free to leave feedback or some things you would like to see and I will see what I can do for you. Overall, this site is still fairly small and there are only 2 people writing articles for this site. It has taken a long time to get this site to where we are now. Currently we are receiving roughly 200 unique hits per day on this site, which is great. I expect that number to alteast double in the next year. With more users, will most likely come new features. The commenting system has worked out wonderfully. We are happy to see feedback feedback from the users out there. We have just implemented the LNA Blogs where we will post current events about the IT industry, stories or other non-technical, non "How-To" type material. Thank you all for coming. ~LazyNetWork Admin |
